Addiction

April 1996 I turned myself in at Livingston Parish Jail. I was 4 months pregnant and strung out on crack cocaine. I felt so alone! My family had given up on me. Who could blame them after putting up with my addiction for 12 years? While I was in Jail something changed my life forever. I found the key that opened the lock to my prison. Not the building, but a prison far worse than any jail I’ve ever been in. You know… the one that’s on the inside of you that you can’t break free from. Some of us serve a life sentence in this prison. What I did not realize was that the root of my problem wasn’t drugs. It went deeper than that. There were hurts in my past. Deep hurts. I used drugs to numb the pain and fill the emptiness inside. Honestly, it went even deeper than that. All of my problems were because of one thing. A broken relationship between me and God. Jesus was the key to my prison. He completely took away the craving for drugs. He healed the deep wounds that nobody could see that were destroying my life. He will set you free from addiction, and heal every hurt from your past no matter what it is or what you’ve done in your life. God loves you. He wants to save you, heal you, and set you free!

Addiction
Addiction has become a growing epidemic in our nation. From Crystal Meth to Methadone and Oxycontin drugs have become a snare to many including our children. I have been in prison ministry for several years and have found that the majority of the women I minister to are addicted to drugs. I have also found that 60-80% of these women have either been abused or are suffering from post traumatic stress related to a past abortion. Many have come from broken families and have turned to drugs, alcohol, and men and/or women for comfort.
